Description
The Maserati component number 278940 belt tensioner is designed to keep the auxiliary belt properly tensioned. The accessory belt powers the engine’s accessories, including the alternator, power steering pump, and air conditioning compressor. If the belt is too slack, it may slip and cause the accessories to not function properly. If the belt is too tight, it might cause excessive wear on both the accessories and the belt itself.
The belt tensioner is a spring-loaded pulley that rests against the back of the belt. This keeps the belt at the proper tension even as it wears and extends with time.
